Fire Extinguisher Servicing for Hertfordshire & North London Businesses

A fire extinguisher that fails to operate in an emergency is worse than no extinguisher at all. Annual servicing by a competent person keeps your equipment reliable, your staff safe, and your business compliant.

Why fire extinguisher servicing matters

Fire extinguishers are often the first line of defence against a small fire before it spreads. But an extinguisher that has not been properly maintained may fail to discharge, have insufficient pressure, or be the wrong type for the fire it is being used on.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for any non-domestic premises must ensure that fire-fighting equipment is maintained in an efficient state and good working order. BS 5306-3 is the British Standard that governs the inspection and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers, and it requires an annual service by a competent person.

In addition to the annual service, a basic visual check should be carried out monthly to confirm extinguishers are in their designated location, have not been discharged or tampered with, and show no obvious signs of damage.

Who needs fire extinguisher servicing?

Any premises where portable fire extinguishers are installed should have them serviced annually, including:

  • Offices and commercial buildings

  • Hotels, B&Bs and guest houses
  • Warehouses and industrial premises
  • Hair salons, beauty salons and spas

Safety pin and tamper seal

We confirm the safety pin is in place and replace the tamper-evident seal so you can immediately identify if an extinguisher has been used or interfered with.

Operating instructions

We check that the operating instructions label is legible and correctly positioned, and replace it if worn or damaged.

Siting and accessibility

We confirm each extinguisher is correctly sited, clearly visible, unobstructed, and mounted at the correct height on an appropriate bracket or stand.
